Yesterday I mentioned that I mentioned that I fixed up a pair of shoes over the weekend. I got these shoes after Christmas last year on super sale. They are blingy and over the top, and that's why I bought them.
Lately the jewels have started popping out. Which pretty much ruins the shoes. So I was just about to throw them away when I thought... maybe I can make something out of them!
I had some gold glitter at my house, and the idea was born. I decided to make my own glitter toe flats.
Here's what I used:
Glitter, mod podge, a paint brush, and tape. And wax paper or something to put under the shoes.
But be warned, glitter will inevitably get everywhere. That's what glitter does.
First, I had to remove all of the old baubles from the shoes. They were sewn and glued on tight, so it was a little tricky. When I saw the holes that were left, I realized the glitter would have to start a bit higher than I planned. Oh well, I thought, let's see how it goes! I was just going to throw them away anyway.
Next I taped off where I wanted the line to be. You can't see it, but I also taped the bottoms of the shoes so they wouldn't end up glittered. Then I applied a thick coat of mod podge and sprinkled on the glitter. After it was dry, I did another small coat over the spots that didn't get covered well enough.
After it was all dry, I rubbed and shook all the excess glitter that could possibly come off. Then I added another coat of mod podge to seal in the glitter. As soon as it was dry, I took off the tape to avoid it becoming too stuck.
And here's the final result! I love the results, and they were fun to make. Something about the holidays makes me love glitter and sparkles. If anyone would like me to glitter their shoes, I am now taking orders ;)
